PPL Shipyard signs with Awilco Offshore

Singapore's PPL Shipyard, a subsidiary of SembCorp Marine, has signed a rig building contract worth $144 million with Awilco Offshore ASA for the construction of a Baker Marine Pacific Class 375 deep drilling offshore jackup rig.

(Asia) - Singapore's PPL Shipyard, a subsidiary of SembCorp Marine, has signed a rig building contract worth $144 million with Awilco Offshore ASA for the construction of a Baker Marine Pacific Class (BMC Pacific) 375 deep drilling offshore jackup rig.

The construction contract is an option that PPL Shipyard granted to Awilco and which the latter has now decided to exercise. Construction of the jackup is expected to commence in 3Q/2005 with delivery scheduled at the end of 4Q/2007.

The BMC Pacific 375 deep drilling offshore jackup rig is a proprietary design developed and owned by Baker Marine Pte Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of PPL Shipyard.

The jackup rig will be equipped with a drilling package that will enable it to drill high pressure and high temperature wells at 30,000 ft while operating in 375 ft of water. It can accommodate a crew of 120.
