Oil and gas discovery in Oseberg
Offshore staff
Hydro has discovered oil and gas in exploration well 30/9-J-13 H, drilled southeast of the Oseberg field on the J central prospect in the Norwegian North Sea. The exploration well has proved oil and gas deposits in early and mid Jurassic formations.
Exploration well 30/9-J-13 H was drilled using theBideford Dolphin semisubmersible at a water depth of 103 m, to a depth of 2,550 m below the sea surface.
The well proved hydrocarbons in the J central prospect, which is being produced as a satellite of the Oseberg Sor platform. The hydrocarbons have been proven in layers that correspond to and are deeper than the reservoir being produced elsewhere on the J structure.
The licensees plan to convert the exploration well into a production well that can be connected to the existing subsea template on the J structure. This will increase the production from Oseberg Sor.
