Archer Oiltools has introduced the Spartan plug range, designed to ensure well integrity during operations, secure well suspension, and safe P&A operations.
The plugs are said to provide protection for short-, medium-, or long-term suspensions and facilitate rapid deployment and retrieval, helping to reduce operational time and costs.
Archer’s plugs portfolio includes three other systems. The Vault dual plug system allows two of the company’s plugs to be installed in one run, streamlining plug operations.

Spearhead is designed to withstand increased hangoff loads or pull forces, thereby improving the efficiency of P&A operations.
Hunter is a tandem plug system that allows a barrier plug to be run in combination with other downhole tools, saving the number of trips and rig time.
The Spartan line adds to the existing Lock plug family of gas tight well suspension plugs. These product lines, which are designed to reduce rig handling, form the base of Archer Oiltools’ plug portfolio, which the company says has been used in the field worldwide in more than 2,500 runs.
