SANDNES, Norway  Vår Energi estimates its recent Countach discovery in the Barents Sea contains 3 MMboe to 13 MMboe in the tested segment.

The undrilled sections could hold a further 3.7 MMboe.

Well 7122/8-1S was drilled 13 km northeast of the Goliat Field center in PL229 (Goliat), northwest of Hammerfest. It reached a measured depth of 2,958 m, with oil encountered in the Realgrunnen and Kobbe formations.

The well will now be permanently P&A’d, with the company and co-licensee Equinor assessing potential for a future appraisal well and a tieback to the Goliat FPSO.

Rune Oldervoll, executive vice president of Exploration and Production with Vår Energi, said, “Due to late arrival of the drilling rig on the field this winter, we have not been able to carry out the planned sidetrack before the environmental drilling restrictions commence on March 1. We look forward to continuing to explore the area around Goliat at a later point in time."

The Countach well was drilled about 13 km northeast of the Goliat Field in the southern part of the Barents Sea and 91 km from Hammerfest.
