STAVANGER, NorwayEquinor has discovered oil in the Toppand prospect in the Troll/Fram area of the Norwegian North Sea.

The semisubmersible West Hercules drilled wells 35/10-7 S and 35/10-7 A 8 km (5 mi) west of the Fram field in 354 m (1,161 ft) water depth.

Well 35/10-7 S encountered 75-m (246-ft) oil column in the lower part of the Ness formation and in the Etive formation, while well 35/10-7 A penetrated a 60-m (197-ft) oil-filled sandstone-dominated interval in the lower part of the Ness formation and in the Etive formation.

Early estimates suggest 21-33 MMboe. Both wells have been P&A’d.

Equinor considers the find as commercial and will investigate a tieback to either of the Troll B or Troll C platforms. Wellesley Petroleum is the other partner in the discovery.

The West Hercules has since transferred north to drill another exploration well (6407/9-13) for Equinor in Norwegian Sea license PL1060.
