Satti drilling second shallow-water Caspian well for bp, partners

BAKU, Azerbaijan – The jackup Satti is drilling the second exploration well – BHEX01 – on the Shallow Water Absheron Peninsula (SWAP) production sharing agreement in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.

The well is targeting the Bibi-Heybat prospect. Earlier, the rig P&A’d the first SWAP exploration well drilled in the North Khali area, in line with the original design and plan.

The BHEX01 well will be drilled within the West Prospective Area, 15 km (9.3 mi) offshore in a water depth of around 7 m (23 ft). Planned TD is up to 4,400 m (14,436 ft).

According to bp, drilling activities should take around four months to complete, although a further month of drilling could follow if appraisal is warranted to obtain more information on the reservoir.

Other partners in SWAP are SOCAR and Lukoil.
