PERTH, Australia – Santos has contracted the jackup Noble Tom Prosser to drill the Pavo-1 and Apus-1 exploration wells in the Bedout basin offshore Western Australia.
According to partner Carnarvon Petroleum, the back-to-back program should begin in late 2021 with the Pavo-1 well.
Both prospects - if proven to hold oil - could materially increase the resource for the nearby Dorado field development via tiebacks, Carnarvon added.
The same rig previously drilled the Dorado-2 and Dorado-3 appraisal wells in 2019.
Santos will now seek to secure the remaining equipment, services and approvals required for drilling.
