OSLO, Norway – Vår Energi has secured approval from Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority to deploy the Island Constructor vessel for well intervention on the Balder field in the central Norwegian North Sea.

Balder, in production license 001, is in a water depth of around 125 m (410 ft). It has been developed with subsea wells tied-back to an FPSO, coming onstream in 1999.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate approved Equinor’s request to drill an exploratory well in North Sea block 34/6, 25 km (15.5 mi) east of the Snorre field and 1.5 km (0.9 mi) northwest of the Garantiana discovery well.

Seadrill’s semisubmersible West Hercules will drill the well after completing a wildcat and potential side track appraisal in PL 090.
