STOCKHOLM, SwedenLundin Energy’s latest exploration well in the southern Barents Sea was a dry hole.

The semisubmersible West Bollsta drilled well 7219/11-1 on the Bask prospect in license PL533B, 35 km (21.7 mi) northwest of Lundin’s Alta oil field discovery.

However, the targeted formation contained poorly developed reservoir, and only traces of hydrocarbons.

The West Bollsta will now head south to the North Sea to drill the Segment D prospect for Lundin in PL359, next to the Solveig subsea tieback to the Edvard Grieg complex on the Utsira High.

The targeted Permian and Triassic aged sandstones are similar to those found at Solveig. A discovery would result in a low-cost tie-in to the Solveig subsea facilities.
