STAVANGER, Norway – Equinor, in partnership with BP Canada, has made two oil discoveries in the Flemish Pass basin, 500 km (310 mi) offshore Newfoundland.

The semisubmersible Transocean Barents drilled both wells this summer at the Cappahayden and Cambriol prospects, west of Equinor’s prospective Bay du Nord oil field development.

Water depth at the Cappahayden well location is around 1,000 m (3,281 ft), and 600 m (1,968 ft) for Cambriol.

As part of this year’s exploration campaign, Equinor also drilled a top-hole at the Sitka prospect.
