OSLO, Norway – The semisubmersible Island Innovator is completing an appraisal well for OMV Norway on the 2018 Hades gas/condensate discovery in the Norwegian Sea.
Well 6506/11-12 S is the second on production license 644, awarded under Norway’s APA 2011 round. The location is 5 km (3.1 mi) west of the producing Morvin field, operated by Equinor.
According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, OMV’s main goals were to delimit the gas/condensate discovery in the lower Cretaceous Lange formation reservoir rocks toward the southwest; reduce uncertainty associated with the resource estimate; and to perform a formation test.
The well, drilled in 433 m (1,420 ft) water depth, intersected what appears to be an 8-m (26-ft) gas column in the Lange Formation, with a total of 83 m (272 ft) of sandstone layers: reservoir properties ranged from poor to moderate.
Previously OMV had estimated the size of the discovery in the range 3-23 MMcmoe. It now assesses recoverable reserves at 2-7 MMcmoe.
After P&A’ing the well, the Island Innovator will head to Hanøytangen shipyard.
