NPD sanctions two Barents Sea wells

Two operators have secured approvals from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate for wildcat drilling in the southern Barents Sea.

OSLO, Norway – Two operators have secured approvals from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate for wildcat drilling in the southern Barents Sea.

Spirit Energy Norway will drill well 7321/8-2 S, the first on license PL 719, using the semisubmersible Leiv Eiriksson.

The targeted prospect is 60 km (37 mi) west of OMV’s Wisting oil discovery.

For Lundin Energy Norway, the semisub West Bollsta will drill well 7219/11-1 on PL 533 B, south of the company’s Filicudi oil discovery and 35 km (22 mi) northwest of its Alta discovery.
