Eni terminates Ehecatl well offshore Mexico as dry hole

EDINBURGH, UK – Eni has failed to find hydrocarbons with its latest exploration well offshore Mexico.
According to Cairn Energy, Ehecatl-1, drilled by the semisubmersible Valaris 8505 on block 7 in the Sureste basin, targeted hydrocarbons in the Lower Miocene.
The well was dry and has since been P&A’d.
Logging, sampling and other collected data will be used to help calibrate the seismic data and improve the partners’ understanding of the Lower Miocene and inform the decision on a second well.
The well location was 65 km (40.4 mi) offshore in 426 m (1,397 ft) of water, with a TD of 4,451 m (14,603 ft).
Cairn owns Capricorn Energy Mexico, a 30% partner in block 7.
