Deepwater Horizon: MMS, USCG to start investigation

The Minerals Management Service (MMS) and US Coast Guard (USCG) plan to open investigation tomorrow to identify the factors leading to the Deepwater Horizon incident.

NEW ORLEANS -- The Minerals Management Service (MMS) and US Coast Guard (USCG) plan to open investigation tomorrow to identify the factors leading to the DeepwaterHorizon incident. The joint effort is classified as a Coast Guard Marine Board of Investigation.

Co-chairs of the investigation are David Dykes of MMS and Captain Hung Hguyen of USCG. The two organizations share jurisdiction for the outer continental shelf and have memoranda of agreement regarding roles and responsibilities.

The first public hearing in the investigation is scheduled for May 11-12 starting at 8 a.m. in Kenner, Louisiana.
