Deepwater Horizon: Small rig fire shuts down production

The US Coast Guard is reporting that a small fire in the derrick of the Discoverer Enterprise shut down the LMRP containment operations this morning.

GULF OF MEXICO – The US Coast Guard is reporting that a small fire in the derrick of the Discoverer Enterprise shut down the LMRP containment operations this morning. Pending safety and operations inspections, operations are expected to begin again this afternoon.

The fire was attributed to a lightning strike and it was extinguished quickly. No injuries were reported, and the safety procedures in place operated as designed.
