RIO DE JANEIRO – Following the tendered resignation of Aldemir Bendine, the Petrobras board of directors held an extraordinary meeting and named Pedro Pullen Parente to be the new CEO.
Human Resources, HSE, and Services Director Hugo Repsold Júnior was appointed to serve as CEO in the interim.
Parente, an engineer and former Minister of State, led the team handling the 2003 transition from Fernando Henrique Cardoso’s government to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva administration. During this period, he served as president of the Energy Crisis Management Chamber.
Luciano Galvão Coutinho, who serves as the head of BNDES, the Brazilian Development Bank, also resigned from the board of directors. Coutinho was elected to replace former Brazilian Finance Minister Guido Mantega as chairman of the board in March 2015. Petrobras said that the position will remain vacant until a new member is elected.
Parente will also occupy the spot on the company's board previously held by Bendine. Bendine also resigned from his position on the board of Petrobras Distribuidora.
