Transocean Inc. and GlobalSantaFe Corp. have agreed to merge. The combined company will be named Transocean Inc.
The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2007, pending shareholders’ approval, regulatory clearance, and receipt of funds under committed financing.
Oceanteam Power & Umbilical ASA has agreed with the curator of Bohlen & Doyen to purchase the marine cable installation assets of Submarine Cable & Pipe GmbH & Co., a subsidiary of the Bohlen & Doyen Group of Wiesmoor, Germany.
ABS has launched guides for operations in the North Sea and arctic regions. The ABS Guide for Mobile Offshore Units Operating on Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) addresses the technical requirements of the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA). ABS also issued Guide for Vessels Operating in Low Temperature Environments.
Integrated Subsea Services has acquired Andrews Survey for £9 million ($18.3 million). Andrews Survey is an independent survey company specializing in seabed surveys and positioning services and is active in subsea construction, trenching, and pipeline inspection by ROV.
Acteon has acquired three companies from the Aberdeen-based Craig Group. They are Seatronics, International Mooring Systems, and Chain Corp. International.
Acteon also has acquired Pacific Management Technologies Inc., which will be renamed InterAct PMTI. Based in Ventura, California, and in Houston, PMTI offers project management services in three areas: production facilities and operations; drilling and production services; and decommissioning.
Weatherford International Ltd. has acquired Reservoir Laboratories AS, a player in the core and reservoir fluid analysis sector of the oil and gas industry. ResLab provides reservoir laboratory services and core analysis testing in the 10 locations it operates around the world, primarily in the Eastern Hemisphere, but including Mexico and Brazil.
Sealift is acquiring Offshore Kinematics and Ocean Dynamics, under a share plus $15.7 million cash offer. Sealift already owns the Dockwise group of transportation and installation companies and expects numerous synergies as a result of acquisition.
Schlumberger has acquired Milan-based Geosystem, a provider of land and marine electromagnetics and seismic imaging services. Electromagnetics is a subsurface measurement used by the oil and gas industry for enhanced reservoir description.
HB Rentals has secured three new contracts from operators in the US and Mexican sectors of the Gulf of Mexico. The first contract, worth $1.3 million is for CrossMar Group’s ABS-class work barge. Pride Offshore ordered a unit worth $350,000, and Shell-owned pressure drilling specialist At Balance signed a $100-million deal for a unit used on an inshore work barge.
Houston-basedProserv Offshore Llc. has acquired Houston-based Twachtman, Snyder & Byrd Inc., a provider of well abandonment and decommissioning services to the international offshore oil and gas market.
Noble Denton Group has acquired Poseidon Maritime for $4.9 million. Noble says it will retain all staff.
RigNet Inc. is expanding its Secure Oil Information Link (SOIL) to Houston. The new network node in Houston will connect to SOIL nodes in Stavanger, Norway, and Aberdeen, Scotland. This will create the first-ever global partner network for the oil and gas industry, according to RigNet.
Steel Pipe and Tube Consultants has been renamed SPT Energy Group. The company provides certified third-party inspection personnel, pipe-end measuring services, and material tracking to the pipeline industry.
National Oillwell Varco has launched a new product, the Shaffer 13 5/8-in. (35-cm) LXT Ram blowout preventer. The new line of BOPs features boltless door technology, which reduces maintenance downtime and increases personnel safety, the company says. The product is available in 5,000, 10,000, and 15,000 psi versions.
Chevron Corp. has formed a research alliance with The University of Texas at Austin to develop new technologies to increase the amount of oil recovered from mature and challenging reservoirs. Under the alliance, Chevron subsidiary Chevron Energy Technology Co. will provide up to $5 million over the next five years to The University of Texas at Austin’s Center for Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering.
Tideway B.V. in the Netherlands and Norway’s Oceanteam Power & Umbilical ASA have signed a five-year cooperation agreement to provide turnkey solutions for major cable-related and wind farm projects.
Aker Kværner has acquired 50% of Phoenix Polymers International Ltd. Aberdeen-based Phoenix develops and manufactures buoyancy and polyurethane products for the oil and gas sector and is a supplier of floatation elements to Aker Kværner’s deepwater marine drilling riser projects. The company will continue to trade under the Phoenix name, Aker Kværner says.
MetaCarta Inc. has signed an agreement with IHS Inc. MetaCarta will enhance its energy geographic data module (GDM) to provide accurate and up-to-date information for energy-related subjects specific to a particular geographic location. Geologists and other E&P analysts using MetaCarta geographic text search (GTS) and GTS geOdrive will be able to search for information such as blocks, licenses, oil fields, wells, and basins found in IHS databases using the just-released MetaCarta IHS global oil and gas GDM, the company says.
WesternGeco has introduced dynamic spread control (DSC), an automated vessel, source, and streamer steering technology for offshore seismic surveys. DSC will be added to the Q-Marine technology platform, which includes steerable streamers, single-sensor acquisition, dense acoustic positioning network, and calibrated marine sources.
Wah Seong Corp. Bhd. is set to build Asia’s first deepwater pipe coating plant in Kuantan Pahang. Construction of the facility was to begin at the end of June 2007 at the company’s existing pipe coating plant in Kuantan. Completion is scheduled for early 2008.
Floating production specialistSevan Marine is set to acquire 100% of the shares of Mator. The latter provides services in primary separation, gas handling, and water treatment.
Winch specialistOdim is planning to acquire Stavanger-based JMC for $17.22 million. Odim hopes to combine JMC’s expertise with its own proprietary CTCU technology to create a leading player in automated handling systems for deepwater operations.
Z-Seis and READ have combined their Crosswell Imaging and Microseismic Frac Monitoring technologies to provide a hybrid process called FracView that supplies in-depth data on fracing operations. FracView provides an image of frac wing aerial extent and height, generated by READ’s microseismic frac monitoring system.
Ramunia Holdings Bhd. is investing $101 million to upgrade and expand its yard at Ramunia in Johor state in peninsular Malaysia. The company is acquiring additional yard space from its own unit Ramunia Energy & Marine Corp. Sdn. Bhd. for the project. Ramunia also has formed a partnership with Singapore’s Mackra Pte. Ltd. to set up a tube rolling facility at the yard.
