Hydralift has a letter of intent from Stena Drilling for the delivery of a complete drilling package and cranes to Stena's new semisubmersible rig, Stena Don, which is to be built at the Kv?rner Warnow yard in Germany. Contracts

Hydralift has a letter of intent from Stena Drilling for the delivery of a complete drilling package and cranes to Stena's new semisubmersible rig, Stena Don, which is to be built at the Kv?rner Warnow yard in Germany. Seateam Technology has received a contract from Interoil Africa for the charter of the DSV Taurus for three years.

Cal Dive has entered into an exclusive marketing contract with Charles F. Martin for an ROV-installed AXI-Forge Delta deepwater pipeline connector system. Also, Cal Dive has entered into an agreement with Radoil to design and manufacture a new generation subsea pile driving hammer.

Canyon Offshore has taken delivery of a new 100 hp Triton XL deepwater ROV built by Perry Tritech. The ROV is depth rated to 8,200 ft.

Shell Deepwater Development Systems has awarded Alcatel a contract worth $5.6 million to supply a specialized umbilical cable for offshore fields in the Gulf of Mexico.

Brown & Root Energy Services has entered a joint venture with Corporacion Mexicana de Mantenimento Integral and Bufete Industrial of Mexico. Pemex has released the three to proceed with project management, design, procurement, fabrication, transportation, installation, hookup, and commissioning for the Cantarell EPC-22 project in the Bay of Campeche.

Cal Dive International has been awarded a contract by Forest Oil covering full life cycle services for Forest's Ship Shoal 276 subsea tie-back project.

Ensco has contracted with Bardex for an upgrade transverse skidding system for the Ensco 53

cantilever jackup drilling rig currently at the Keppel FELS yard in Singapore.

Empresas of Mexico has won a $52.4 million

contract to build a drilling platform for Pemex. The platform will inject nitrogen gas for crude oil extraction in the Gulf of Mexico.

Horizon Offshore has signed a letter of intent with Det Sondenfjelds-Norske Dampskibsselskab (DSND) to extend the bareboat charter for the Stephaniturm, a 230 ft diving support vessel until Dec. 31.

Global Marine has appointed Bruce Watson as President of Global Marine Drilling based in The Hague, Netherlands. Also, Gary Kott, Chief Financial Officer of the company, is taking early retirement.

Alliance spices up Salsa

Alliance Engineering has completed a contract for the engineering and design of the deck and facilities for Shell's Salsa platform in the Gulf of Mexico. Salsa, located in Garden Banks 172 B, serves as a well platform and primary production facility feeding wet oil and wet gas through pipelines to Shell's Enchilada platform in nearby Garden Banks 128 A. The Salsa deck is supported by a four-leg jacket in 693 ft water depth. Primary separation and test facilities will accommodate 15 well slots and maximum production rates of 40,000 b/d of oil and 300 MMcf/d of gas. The structural design and layout of the deck was based on the Nabors Drilling Rig 86.

Museum recoeves vessel donation

Sea Mar has donated the M/V Seahorse, a 166 ft cargo vessel, to the International Petroleum Museum & Exposition of Morgan City, Louisiana. The vessel had served the offshore industry in South America since 1978 and required extensive renovations to meet offshore standards and requirements. Sea Mar, which merged with Pool Energy Services, decided against to retiring the vessel. The M/V Seahorse is still in good physical condition, but will undergo some cosmetic and mechanical refurbishing work, which will be donated by Bollinger Shipyards. The vessel will be used for public display, training purposes, and to transport needed supplies, materials, and equipment to and from the museum's drilling rig Mr. Charlie.

Industry records

  • SubSea International has broken its own previously recorded ROV depth record by completing a successful dive to 16,405 ft during sea trials in the Cayman Trench in the Caribbean with its 150-hp Hammerhead ROV.
  • Coflexip Stena Offshore has carried out the first installation in the Pierce Field in the North Sea of the Group's new Teta technology used on a high pressure gas injection riser, setting a new world pressure record. It was used for an 8-in. flexible riser with a design pressure of 5,500 psi and an operating pressure of 5,075 psi.
  • Bluewater Industries successfully completed ATP Oil & Gas's 11.75 mile coiled pipeline and control umbilical installation in 525 ft of water connection ATP's Garden Banks 134 #1 subsea well and Mobil's High Island 595 production complex. The coiled pipeline is one of the longest and deepest in the world, according to manufacturer Precision Tube Technology. The direct hydraulic control umbilical is the longest known to date in the Gulf of Mexico.
