Chevron joins SLB-TotalEnergies digital subsurface collaboration

Chevron recently joined the Arena initiative, a collaboration between SLB and TotalEnergies focused on advancing digital technologies for reservoir characterization, uncertainty analysis and field development planning.

Chevron Technical Center, a division of Chevron U.S.A., has joined the Arena digital subsurface collaboration between SLB and TotalEnergies, which was formed in 2024.

The goal is to jointly develop next-generation digital technologies to advance reservoir engineering and geoscience.

Chevron will provide investment, intellectual property and technical expertise, including uncertainty analysis, optimization and field development planning.

Arena is investigating technologies that can support decision-making in reservoir engineering and geoscience workflows, SLB explained.

“Chevron adds valuable experience and perspectives that will help strengthen how we address complex subsurface workflows and field development decisions," added Rakesh Jaggi, president of SLB’s digital business.

With TotalEnergies and Chevron subject matter specialists based at SLB technology centers, the collaboration should shorten traditional feedback times between operators and product development teams, SLB reported, while also bringing operators’ perspectives directly into technology development.

Jitendra Kikani, Chevron’s vice president of Subsurface, said the company expects the combination of its strength in uncertainty analysis with digital technologies and AI-enabled workflows “to improve decision quality, accelerate insights and enhance operational efficiency."
