Tosi launches OT network intelligence tool targeting offshore cybersecurity challenges

Tosi has released its new Tosi Insight operational intelligence tool that is designed to give operators greater visibility into operational technology (OT) networks and connected assets across industrial facilities, including offshore oil and gas installations. 

The software expands the capabilities of Tosi Control, the company's cloud-based OT connectivity and management platform introduced earlier this year. According to Tosi, the new application analyzes OT network traffic, identifies connected assets, detects abnormal activity and prioritizes potential operational risks that may not be visible through traditional network monitoring tools. 

The company said the technology was developed in response to increasing connectivity across industrial operations, which has made it more difficult for operators to maintain visibility into distributed OT environments. 

"Tosi Control answers the question: 'Is everything connected and operating?' Tosi Insight answers the next question customers ask: 'What is happening across my OT environment?'" said Sakari Suhonen, CEO of Tosi US. "Together they provide organizations with a single platform that connects, visualizes, controls and now delivers operational intelligence across distributed OT environments." 

US Gulf operators face mounting OT cybersecurity demands

For offshore oil and gas operators, Tosi told Offshore that the technology addresses several long-standing challenges associated with remotely managing production assets scattered across multiple platforms and normally unattended facilities.

In an offshore application brief to Offshore, the company outlined a representative Gulf of Mexico scenario in which operators sought to reduce offshore troubleshooting trips, improve control over third-party vendor access and prepare for new US Coast Guard cybersecurity requirements that take effect in 2027. 

The regulations apply to Outer Continental Shelf facilities and require covered operators to implement measures such as multifactor authentication, access controls and cybersecurity planning. According to Tosi, many offshore operators continue to rely on a mix of legacy control systems, third-party vendor access and remote communications networks that can complicate compliance efforts.

Many operators are now evaluating cybersecurity programs and remote-access architectures ahead of the July 2027 compliance deadline, making visibility into OT assets and user activity an increasing operational priority.

Remote connectivity challenges offshore

According to Tosi, Insight operates as a software module within its existing platform and can automatically identify connected devices, monitor industrial protocols such as Modbus and DNP3, maintain a continuously updated asset inventory and detect unusual network behavior. The company said these capabilities can help operators gain visibility into legacy control systems and vendor-connected equipment that may not be fully documented. 

Offshore OT environments can include PLCs, RTUs, flow computers, gas detection systems and compressor or turbine control packages distributed across multiple facilities.

The company also highlighted potential benefits for offshore operations that rely on satellite communications and shore-based support teams to manage geographically dispersed assets. By providing remote access controls, user-level permissions and session logging, the platform is designed to help operators manage equipment access while reducing the need for offshore site visits. 

Features of Tosi Insight include continuous OT traffic monitoring, behavioral anomaly detection, risk-based event prioritization, network traffic analytics, communication mapping, investigation tools and executive reporting capabilities. 

Tosi said the platform is intended to help operators improve management of remote assets, third-party access and cybersecurity oversight without requiring additional IT personnel offshore.
