Allseas, Able progress on offshore infrastructure development and decommissioning work
Allseas to install subsea pipeline facilities offshore Singapore
Aster Chemicals & Energy has contracted Allseas for offshore works related to the rejuvenation of a single buoy mooring and subsea infrastructure on Bukom island near Singapore.
Allseas will allocate its shallow-water construction barge Sandpiper for the program, which calls for installation and commissioning for pipeline infrastructure connecting the offshore facility to Aster’s onshore refinery and storage hub.
Bukom is a hub for Singapore’s refining and petrochemical industries, allowing large tankers to transfer crude oil safely to the shore.
Able contracted to dismantle two TAQA platform topsides
In northeast England, Able will dismantle and recycle the topsides from TAQA’s Cormorant Alpha and Tern platforms in the UK northern North Sea, under a contract awarded by Allseas.
Able will take delivery of the topsides at its Able Seaton Port (ASP) facility in Teesside from 2027 onward, with up to 97% of the recovered materials targeted for reuse/recycling.
In total, the two dismantled topsides will weigh 47,500 metric tons.
Able meets Brent Charlie recycling milestones
This summer, Able completed two major tasks for the recycling of the 31,000-mt Shell Brent Charlie platform topsides, also removed from the UK northern North Sea.
One was a cut-and-pull operation for the 93-m-tall flare stack, mounted 50 m above ground level. This involved attaching dual wire pulling ropes, with the base pre-weakened with hinging tags for a controlled collapse, and shims used to manage compression and the load transfer.
Able teams then performed final cuts on the main legs, exiting the topsides before two 90-mt excavators brought the structure down within the designed exclusion zone.
In mid-July, the 6,000-mt South Cantilever structure was brought down at the yard. The MSF frame was pre-weakened using a combination of step cuts, castle cuts, tags and shims. Precision Demolition Co. installed 70 kg of explosive cutting charges, with the top chord severed (using explosives) following after a 12-day preparatory phase.
Able managed the engineering design, which was verified by Robert Clarke Engineering through Category 3 checks.
