Offshore Europe 2025: Tide Breaker supports AI startups, adapts to needs of subsea sector
Elementz is working on Tide Breaker, a digital initiative designed to fast track the development of artificial intelligence (AI) in subsea operations, according to a Sept. 3 company news release.
The program has support from the company’s advisory board, Compass, which was formed in May and has representatives from Aker BP and Shell.
The goal is to speed up development, validation and adoption of AI throughout the subsea sector, helping AI startup companies to get an understanding of the sector’s operational challenges while also providing subsea operators access to solutions that suit their evolving needs.
Further support comes from ONE Digital Tech and The Data Lab, which is Scotland’s Innovation Centre for Data and AI.
Tide Breaker is built on Elementz’ cloud-based SaaS solution for subsea integrity management. This, the company said, will provide the digital infrastructure for participating startups to develop and test their technologies.
They will be able to draw on validated datasets, helping them create tools that benefit anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, autonomous inspection and other subsea applications.
“Startups often struggle to access real operational data or integrate with legacy systems. This program gives them the tools and environment to build solutions that are tested, trusted and deployable.”
—Jason Brown, CEO, Elementz
Via Tide Breaker, Compass members will also define technical challenges, mentor participants and assess outcomes of their solutions for field deployments.
A formal launch of the Tide Breaker program will take place next month, at which point applications will open. The selected startups will enter the program by the end of the year and then proceed to development and testing phases through mid-2026, followed by evaluation and commercial integration.
