University of Tokyo and INPEX form reservoir engineering R&D program

The program is intended to promote the research and development (R&D) of technologies related to oil and natural gas development and CCS for the stable supply of lower-carbon energy.

On April 1 in Japan, INPEX and the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Engineering formed a collaboration in reservoir engineering for sustainable energy resources.

The goal is to promote R&D for both oil and gas development and carbon capture and storage (CCS). This includes tracer technologies to monitor oil and gas field production characteristics and CCS conditions; optimization technologies for planning of oil and gas field development and CCS operations using AI; and interpretation of reservoir fluid flow mechanisms.
