SOCAR-KBR awarded Shah Deniz gas compression engineering contract
bp has contracted the SOCAR-KBR LLC joint venture (JV) in Baku to support two new projects in Azerbaijan.
The JV will perform detailed engineering design and procurement for the newly launched $2.9 billion Shah Deniz gas field compression development (SDC) in the Caspian Sea and similar services for the Sangachal Terminal Electrification (STEL) project. Sangachal is the country’s largest oil and gas reception terminal.
Previously the JV undertook the FEED for STEL and pre-FEED and FEED for SDC.
The SDC project will involve installation of an offshore compression platform and associated facilities to allow more gas volumes from Shah Deniz to be produced and processed.
The platform, with four 11-MW compressors, will be located 3 km from the existing Shah Deniz Bravo (SDB) platform and 10 km from Shah Deniz Alpha (SDA) in about 85 m water depth. It will serve as a host facility for SDA and SDB gas export compression.
“The Sangachal terminal, which was designed by KBR and serves as a vital link between Azerbaijan and the rest of Europe, will enable the country’s transition to national grid supply and reduce emissions," said Jay Ibrahim, KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions president. “The Shah Deniz compression project marks the next stage in the evolution of delivering safe and efficient solutions.”
