Inspection drone trialed on Valaris jackup

ABERDEEN, UK — Interocean Marine Services has staged a demonstration of the Flyability Elios 3 UT drone onboard the Valaris Viking jackup.

The program was designed to show how use of the drone could eliminate risks associated with working-at-height and confined space entry, while also cutting costs through reducing the need for scaffolding and rope access.

According to Interocean, the drone, using its ultrasonic thickness measurement equipment, can provide accurate readings 10 times faster than conventional inspection methods.
