ABERDEEN, UK – RED Engineering has developed modular subsea clamps for subsea well intervention operations.

It has delivered the first two clamps toTechnipFMC for operation from the well intervention vessel Island Constructor.

According to RED, the modular design allows the capacity of the clamps to be adjusted for both shallow and deepwater operations, increasing the flexibility across a range of well intervention projects.

The company has worked with TechnipFMC for over a decade and completed this latest development in under six months, including the design, build, and testing of the clamps at RED’s in-house test facility.

The main challenge was to produce a pair of adaptable clamps that would safely retain two side-by-side umbilical cables, said RED engineer, Mike Stobbart:

“As with previous clamps, these new ones feature spring-applied pads to ensure a consistent and reliable clamping force is applied to the umbilicals. However, we have now added a hydraulic actuation system to improve the efficiency of deployment.”
