Cable grab tool ready for umbilical, pipeline deployments

ABERDEEN, UKRotech Subsea has introduced RSG1, a new cable grab system which has already been deployed on a North Sea renewables project.

The tool, designed and manufactured by the company’s R&D division, allows Rotech to now a cable de-burial, cutting, grabbing, recovery and backfilling service.

It can also be applied to umbilical and pipeline recovery and rock removal/relocation.

Rotech Subsea director Stephen Cochrane said the new tool, which can be deployed by two skilled technicians, allowing for 24-hour operation, provides real-time sonar monitoring with a subsea camera and lights.

It can operate in water depths from 0-200 m (0-656 ft) with a grab diameter of 50-1,100 mm (1.97-43 in.) and a grip force of 50kN.
