Expro unveils high-pressure tubing conveyed perforating gun system for the deepwater GoM

ABERDEEN, UKExpro has launched a new extreme high-pressure tubing conveyed perforating (TCP) gun system.

This, the company claims, delivers the largest perforation hole area available for frac and gravel pack completions.

Designed specifically for deepwater environments in theGulf of Mexico (GoM), the Extreme Pressure Series 30,000-psi TCP gun system uses super big hole charge technology, providing best-in-class area-open-to-flow (AOF) to support frac-and gravel-pack operations.

Delivering 18-22 shots per foot using steel HMX charges, standard casing sizes of 7 in. through 7¾ in., in combination with the 4¾-in. OD system, will achieve 6-7-in. AOF. However, larger casing sizes of 9⅝ through 10¾ in., using the 6⅝-in. OD system, will deliver 13-15-in. AOF.

Developed in collaboration withGEODynamics, the system is complemented by Expro’s fully rated dual hydraulic firing heads and drillstem testing (DST) tools for underbalanced perforating applications. These systems are said to deliver efficient completions, alongside optimal well performance.

Expro’s DST/TCP Global Business Development Manager, Kerry Daly said: “The 30,000-psi TCP guns and associated equipment were specifically designed for the deepwater environment, where operators typically frac or gravel pack wells after perforating and require the most AOF possible. Now fully field tested, they can deliver an industry leading perforating hole size for achieving optimal completions and subsequent performance from the well.

“It allows us to bring a key piece of technology to the market place, to support a range of clients due to spud their wells in 2018 – a key driver of this partnership from the outset.”

The company is launching the new TCP gun system at the LAGCOE conference being held in Lafayette, Louisiana, Oct. 24-26, 2017.
