Copper-nickel Task Group puts up Website
Copper Development Association
HEMEL HEMPSTEAD, UK --The Copper-nickel Task Group, formed by specialists in the alloys, has created a informative, practical Website, www.coppernickel.org, as a resource for engineers in this field.
The site continues to be developed to include up-to-date items important for engineers to understand the behavior of copper-nickel alloys and to assist them with design.
A new Fittings section has been introduced within the System Design pages. It describes the fittings that have been developed for the alloys. It looks at bends, reducers, and various types of T-pieces.
Joining methods also are addressed. They include welding and brazing, flanged connections, threaded unions, press joints, and pipe couplings. The advantages and disadvantages of each method are listed. Relevant standards are included as well as typical properties.
Insight is provided into the effect of various fitting geometries and production methods on seawater flow conditions. This is relevant to copper alloy systems since avoiding turbulence is important. There are descriptions of several metal sealing and soft sealing designs for threaded unions. Metallic seals normally are applied for higher temperature and aggressive media.
