WOLVERHAMPTON, UK --Midland-ACS has developed a control system capable of operating with gas turbine heat recovery systems.

The company's design was chosen by Citech, to control its adjustable cylindrical damper for use on the Maersk Oil-operated Al Shaheen field offshore Qatar. This is part of a $5 billion project to increase the field's output to 525,000 b/d of oil from its current level of 240,000 b/d.

Typically used in oil refineries, a total of nine large bore cylinders with three control panels were provided to Citech to lift their cylindrical damper on the heat exchangers.

The cylinders, made from an epoxy coated steel barrel and stainless steel, have a bore of 160 mm (6 in.) and a stroke of 916 mm (23 in.). They can operate in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +80°C.
