BRACKNELL, UK -- 3M has unveiled a new filtration vessel designed for use with the company's CUNO range of 740B filtration units.

The first trial of the new filtration vessel at Cabot Specialty Fluids showed the operational life of the 5μ x 740B elements was extended by 60% over and above the traditional 5μ x 2 in. (5 cm) x 40 in. (102 cm) elements, according to 3M.

"The 7 in. (17.8 cm) diameter 740B cartridge has 16 sq m (172 sq ft) of effective filtration surface area, compared to 1.4 sq m (15 sq ft) in a traditional 2-in. diameter cartridge, so users need fewer filters, require less storage space and can reduce transport/disposal costs," says Doug Florance, 3M specialist filtration consultant.

The vessel has DNV certification for use offshore, can be used with 2μ, 5μ and 10μ 740B filter cartridges, and has a vertical skid design, making it easy to maneuver on a rig or platform.
