ABERDEEN, UK --Groveley Detection has completed a contract to upgrade the gas detection systems on Talisman Energy's Claymore platform in the UK North Sea.

The project involved replacing 180 catalytic sensors with Simtronics GD10P infra-red gas detectors. The latter are fail-safe point detectors that do not require field calibration. The GD10P systems are not sensitive to vibration or rapid temperature changes, and their silicon-based infra-red sources give them an expected in-service life of 60 years, says Groveley.

Grovely also provided specially designed dual-bridge interface systems to convert output from the Simtronics detectors to one that could be recognized by the existing gas control cards.

Each detector was supplied with a bracket configured to fit the existing gas detector junction box fixing centers.
