STOCKHOLM, Sweden --Sandvik has gained approval from Statoil for two stainless steel grades. The approval confirms accordance to Norskok standard M650 Rev 3 for oil and gas applications.

The two duplex steel grades are Sanmac SAF 205 – UNS S31803/S32205 in size ranges 20-266 mm (0.79-10.48 in.), and Sandvik SAF 2507 – UNS S32750 in the range 20-250 mm (0.79-9.84 in.). The approval is valid through 2012.

According to Sandvik, these duplex grades provide more than twice the strength and lower thermal expansion than austenitic steels, making them suitable for service in seawater. They also have favorable machining qualities.
