SANDNES, Norway -- Eni Norge and Statoil have contracted APL to supply an offloading station for installation on the Goliat field FPSO in the Barents Sea.

The direct loading system will be engineered to reduce environmental risks connected to offloading operations from Goliat. Due to its cylindrical shape, the FPSO will remain in a geostationary position which increases the distance from a shuttle tanker that has to be maintained.

Eni says this is one of numerous measures designed to prevent a potential collision during offloading. Also, visual inspection during offloading will be improved to facilitate detection of any irregularities.

The offloading system will be designed in Arendal and installed on the FPSO, under construction by Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea.

Eni operates Goliat, which is due to come onstream during 4Q 2013.
