EAST KILBRIDE, UK -- SBM Atlantia has contracted VWS Westgarth for sulfate reduction equipment for an FPSO on the Baleia Azul field, offshore Espirito Santo state, Brazil.

The scope covers design and supply of a single-lift module seawater sulfate reduction package (SRP) a capacity of 20,060 cu m/day (126,000 b/d of water).

The SRP will be able to remove sulfates and other divalent ions from injection water to enhance oil recovery using Dow Filmtec membranes. Removal of these ions is intended to suppress formation of barium sulfate and strontium sulfate scale in the reservoir.

This will be VWS Westgarth’s first collaboration with SBM Atlantia, although the company has worked on SRP projects with SBM in Monaco and SBM Gusto MSC in the Netherlands.

Work will be project managed and engineered in VWS Westgarth’s Glasgow, Scotland, offices.
