DUBLIN, Ireland -- EIRGAS, a subsidiary of Providence Resources, has contracted AMEC to do a conceptual development study for an underground gas storage scheme offshore eastern Ireland.
The Ulysses project, which started in 2008, assessed the natural gas storage and carbon sequestration potential of the Kish Bank basin, offshore Dublin. The study confirmed the suitability of a site for construction of an offshore natural gas salt cavern storage facility.
AMEC has extensive experience of similar projects on and offshore where there are plans to store gas in deep under-sea, man-made salt caverns. The initial phase of the study includes planning and gas sourcing and should be completed by 1Q 2011.
