ABERDEEN, UK -- Vertec Engineering has completed a $2-million project to design, manufacture, and deliver a 170-metric ton (187-ton) variable speed drive (VSD) module for the Cascade and Chinook project in the Gulf of Mexico.

The VSD module will be installed on the FPSO BW Pioneer, the first FPSO to be approved for use in the GoM.

The air-conditioned module will house four high voltage VSDs and associated equipment. The VSDs supply power down-hole for two horizontal, electric submersible pumping control systems. The module is also equipped with a fully integrated fire suppression system.
