CHESTERFIELD, UK -- Cathelco Brazil has developed a retrofit cathodic protection system for the Pride-owned semisub Pride South Atlantic.

The impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) system consists of 16 Nautilus anodes that will be suspended around the semisubmersible to protect the pontoons and bracings against corrosion. The anodes are suspended through conduits, which keep them at a fixed distance from the structure to achieve a good current spread, the company says.

The system also has eight reference electrodes that measure the electrical potential and send a signal back to the control panel, which raises or lowers the output to the anodes, so that the structure receives the optimum level of corrosion protection at all times.
