(West Africa) - Ferguson Modular has secured a contract worth almost $1.8 million to provide Transocean with nine offshore accommodation modules for their deepwater semisubmersible drilling rigSedco 709.

The modules will be manufactured and commissioned at Ferguson's Inverurie facility with delivery scheduled for April of this year.

The complex will be comprised of a total of nine units, including six 10.3 m accommodation modules, two office modules, and a locker module to form a facility capable of sleeping up to 36 persons.

The requirement will support the drilling program on Shell's Bonga project in Nigeria, West Africa.

Mike McKay, Divisional Manager, Manufacturing, for Ferguson Modular said "As the units are our own standard design we can apply a fixed price to the contract which means there is no price escalation for the client.

"Important factors in securing the contract was the weight of our units and our ability to deliver on time as there is a short lead time involved.

"The weight was a very important feature for the client and something which was incorporated in our new design which was successfully launched last year.

"Other features include a fully integrated air conditioning system fitted as standard making them suitable for the widest range of global environments including regions such as West Africa."
