(Egersund, Norway) Next month, the crane vesselSaipem 7000 will lift a new 960 metric ton mud treatment module onto Hydro's Oseberg East platform. Hydro aims to use the 20 m tall module to help it extract a further 40 MM bbl of oil from the platform, thereby extending its forecast life through 2024.

The platform is being modified to allow drilling of new development wells, due to get under way in2007. In addition to the mud module, built by AkerKvaerner in Egersund, Hydro will also take delivery of a 60 t turbine-driven power generator and a 68 t transformer module. The platform's living quarters, already delivered by Leirvik, have also been expanded from 42 to 62 beds.
