HOUSTON -- Impact Guidance Systems (IGS) reports it has run its first casing collar locator (CCL) known as DataCollar for a Canadian customer.

The operation with the memory-based CCL performed the following:
- Run in hole with coil and determine the lower pay zone interval which was only 3-ft (1-m) across. Determine lower and upper part of the pay zone in order to permit installation of two isolation plugs above and below the pay in order to isolate and allow cement isolation of the upper deteriorated pay zone. Depth correlation was critical.

- After running the CCL and reviewing the data the operator was able to determine within 6-in. (15-cm) the depth and location of the pay. The customer was then able to re-enter the well and place the isolation plugs exactly on depth first time. After treating the upper pay zone and drilling out the plugs well test proved the intervention was a success.

According to IGS, this is a first for acquisition of accurate depth control and placement the first time around without real-time analysis.
