TOMBALL, Texas -- American National Carbide has unveiled Starbide, a star-shaped carbide cutter. The cutter’s tungsten carbide inserts cut casings, and plugs, the company says. Each star-shaped insert has 16 identical cutting edges.

The composite rod is cast in a nickel/brass matrix with a tensile strength of 100,000 psi and is available both bare and fluxed. According to the company, the product’s consistent grade, uniform shape, and alignment allow for quick application.

Starbide is available in 1/8-in., 3/16-in., ¼-in., and 3/8-in. (0.3-cm, 0.5-cm, 0.6-cm, and 1-cm) dimensions.
