AGR, Flexlife complete first diverless subsea ultrasonic examination

AGR Field Operations and Flexlife have successfully performed the world's first diverless, subsea ultrasonic examination on flexible risers, according to AGR.

STRAUME, Norway -- AGR Field Operations and Flexlife have successfully performed the world's first diverless, subsea ultrasonic examination on flexible risers, according to AGR.

AGR's Neptune inspection technology and Flexlife's flexible riser knowledge produced high-resolution ultrasonic images through the outer riser sheath of the amour wiring underneath.

The inspection was carried out on six flexibles in the 4-in. to 8-in. (10-cm to 20-cm) diameter range directly from the FPSO installation. Deployment, attachment, detachment, and recovery were performed in line with a strict procedure to comply with the client's safety and integrity expectations. The ROV was a small inspection class Falcon by Film-Ocean.

The results were recorded using AGR's proprietary technology design software and delivered to the client in real time.
