PORSGRUNN, Norway -- Shell is using a Minox system from Grenland Group to effectively remove oxygen from injection water at the Ursa platform in the Gulf of Mexico.

The oxygen is removed in order to reduce corrosion in equipment and pipe systems, and to prevent growth of unwanted bacteria in the oil reservoirs.

"We experience great interest for our Minox Deoxygenation systems," says Hans Evald Henriksen from Grenland Group. "Especially in the current tight energy market, more oil companies would like to inject water in the reservoirs for enhanced oil recovery. In addition to be a stable system effectively removing oxygen from the injection water, the Minox system is both environmentally friendly and flexible with regards to design and capacities."
