PARIS -- Technip has leased 49 acres of land from Tanjung Langsat Port for a new flexible pipe manufacturing plant to be called Asiaflex Products.

On the southern tip of Peninsular Malaysia in Johor state, this new plant will have direct access to a deepwater quay-side.

Asiaflex Products' flexible pipes can be 8 in (20 cm) in diameter and will have a manufacturing capacity of 200 km (124 mi) in length per year. It will allow the Technip group to reach a total maximum production capacity of 1,060 km (659 mi) per year, including the current capacity of the two existing Technip plants.

Expected to be operational by 2010, Asiaflex Products' focus will be the deepwater oil and gas markets in the Asia-Pacific and Middle-East regions. The manufacturing site will be designed to allow future extension for umbilical production.
