STAVANGER, Norway – Statoil (OSE:STL) has contracted ABB (NYSE:ABB) to upgrade safety and automation systems at the Heimdal platform in the Norwegian North Sea.

ABB’s scope comprises provision of a new human-machine interface for the control system, control room modifications, a simulator, fire and gas detectors, integration of telecommunication in the control room, and information management systems.

Following the upgrades, the Heimdal facility will deploy ABB’s 800xA Extended Automation platform as its main control system, adapted to comply with Statoil’s guidelines for workstations layout and design of process graphics. ABB will have full engineering, procurement, construction, and installation responsibility.

The Heimdal platform now serves primarily as ahub for processing gas from the Huldra, Oseberg, Skirne, and Vale fields and exporting it via the Vesterled or Statpipe pipelines for processing.
