Benthic to perform geotechnical investigation at Sea Lion offshore Australia
Carnarvon Hibiscus Pty. Ltd. (CHPL) has contracted Benthic for an offshore geotechnical investigation in the Sea Lion field offshore southeastern Australia in the Bass Strait.
Operating from a client-issued vessel, Benthic’s portable remotely operated drill PROD1 will perform rotary drilling and piston coring, and in situ testing using a piezo-cone penetrometer. The aim is to identify the prospect’s seabed ground conditions for a well to be drilled by a jackup.
PROD1 will penetrate to depths up to 30 m (98 ft) below the mudline, in water depths of approximately 24 m (78 ft). Core transportation logistics and laboratory testing will be coordinated by the company during the offshore operations. CHPL will be provided with factual geotechnical data reports following laboratory testing.
Benthic will begin operations in 1Q 2015.
CHPL announced in October 2014 that it signed a rig share agreement with Origin Energy Resources Ltd. to assume services of theSeadrill West Telesto jackup for exploration drilling on the Sea Lion prospect, located in permit VIC/P57, during 2Q 2015.
