Skandi Navica upgrade
Offshore staff
(UK) - The Engineering Business (EB) is working with Subsea 7 in the UK to upgrade theSkandi Navica piggyback pipelay system. The work is needed in readiness for various upcoming projects, including a contract off Brazil.
Initially, the two parties undertook a FEED study to improve understanding of the existing system, and to assess new equipment needs to improve reliability and performance.
EB has since delivered 16 metric tons of equipment for fitting to the vessel's lay ramp, including a new straightener system with associated chute and deflection rollers.
The straightener incorporates a double bogey wheel assembly, designed to reduce contact loads and to increase the system's throughput. The chute should allow longer and larger pipe lengths to be piggybacked. All the equipment has now been installed on the vessel in Dundee on Scotland's east coast.
