Bacton upgrade
Offshore staff
(North Sea) - Transmitton, a control systems specialist based in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, England, is upgrading the control and monitoring system at Shell's gas terminal in Bacton.
The new £1 million system will monitor and control 27 offshore gas production platforms in the southern North Sea and associated gas reception facilities onshore. The installation should be completed by the end of December.
The control system has to interface with numerous other third party metering, fire and gas, emergency shutdown and compressor control systems. It does this via its cronos masterstation facility, based around dual servers in redundant configuration with internal communications supported by a dual fault-tolerant Ethernet network.
Three interfaces have been identified for integration just after site acceptance testing is finished early in the New Year. The system will also transfer data to Shell's own management information systems.
