(Azerbaijan) - Azerbaijan International Operating Company (AIOC) has issued a Letter of Intent to KCA Deutag for platform drilling and maintenance services on the Deep Water Guneshli (DWG) platform.

The platform will be installed on the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli field located in the Azeri sector of the Caspian Sea. KCA Deutag already had the $10 million contract for engineering and procurement of drilling utilities, quarters and drilling modules for DWG.

Under the five-year, $50 million contact, the company will provide technical support during construction and commissioning. It will also undertake pre-operational activity to ensure trouble-free start-up of the rig, which is currently under construction at the Mercon yard in Gorinchem, The Netherlands. The rig is due to leave the yard next spring, with operations expected to begin in late 2007.

At present, KCA Deutag is performing drilling operations on the Chirag and Central Azeri platforms with the West Azeri and East Azeri rigs in pre-operations mode, all for AIOC. It is also supporting pre-operations for BP's Shah Deniz project in the same sector.
